Music Lesson Opportunities
Six reasons why children should learn a musical instrument
- For the shy child, playing a musical instrument is self expression.
- For the awkward child, it’s co-ordination.
- For the impulsive child, it’s a way to channel energy into a rewarding accomplishment.
- For the easily distracted child, it’s concentration.
- For the uncertain child, it’s poise and confidence.
- For the child who gives up easily, it’s perseverance
Through the Music Department a large number of Itinerant Music teachers are dedicated to providing musical expertise in their chosen field to the pupils of Katikati College. Lessons are provided from a combination of government funded and private providers.
For 2011 the free government sponsored lessons are on the following instruments: Guitar, Bass Guitar, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. Your child can collect an application form from the student office if they are interested in learning one of these instruments. There is a one off cost of $20 a year which helps cover repairs and maintance on instruments, buying of resources and the tuning of the pianos.
For 2011 the private providers are Singing (Cathy Harris), Guitar (Sean Bodley), Piano / Keyboard (Joyette Drost) and Drums (Kal Irwin). If you are interested in learning from a private teacher, please contact the Music Department for details.
The school also has a number of instruments for hire at a cost of $45.00 for the year. We currently have available Trombone, Clarinets, Trumpets, Violin and Viola. Instruments can also be hired from Bay City Music or the Rock Shop in Tauranga or Oasis in Waihi. All companies have excellent hirage schemes and hire to buy schemes.
Music lessons occur during school time and are approximately 30 minutes in length. Due the revolving school timetable students will not miss the same class each week.
If you desire more information about the programme and contact details of the teachers themselves, please ask your child to collect an “Everything you need to know about learning a music instrument at Katikati College” brochure from the Student Office or email firstname.lastname@example.org
